PROJECTS
Each year, the Superintendent of Big Cypress National Preserve submits a prioritized list of needs to the Friends' Board of Directors. Given the limitations of federal funding for the Preserve, the Friends' support is often the only way critical natural resource protection, cultural preservation, scientific research and environmental education activities can take place.
The Friends' Board carefully considers the projects in the Preserves Support Request. Those projects that are approved, along with Friends-initiated projects that the Board chooses to undertake, consitute our annual project plan.
This year, our first year as a Friends group, we have decided to undertake several projects:
1. The 30th Anniversary of Big Cypress National Preserve birthday party.
2. Post educational signs on the new boardwalks within the Preserve
3. Locate funding to help scientific research and environmental education

Boardwalk Signs
Big Cypress will have new boardwalks for the public to enjoy in the fall of 2004. Our biggest project is to obtain educational signs to place along the boardwalks to help folks to more fully understand the ecosystem of the Big Cypress. We have obtained the generous donation for the structure of the signs and are now in the process of looking toward the creation of the art work, words, and completion of the signs.
If this is an area in which you have knowledge, we can certainly use your help. Please email us at mail@friendsofbigcypress.org and let us know how you can help.

Education
We are working with the Education/Interprestive Department of Big Cypress National Preserve to help find volunteers to work with the school children who visit the Preserve this coming year. If you have experience, or just love the wonderful enthusiasm of children, we'd love to have you as part of the team.
Funds
The Preserve is always in need of funding for their environmental education and scientific research. We are in the process of locating programs that help fund such efforts. If you are knowledgable in this area, we can use your help. Please email us at mail@friendsofbigcypress.org
